Can anyone reprogram a PATS locally?

I think that the Pats module on my Expy gave up the ghost. The local dealer, Langway Ford told me $400 minimum as soon as I said Theft light flashing.....How do they know with out even looking at the truck?

I have already had a key cut via the VIN and tried to reprogram it myself to no avail. I am used to my diesel that does not have this system in it.

Is there any other way to have this done other than a dealer? The locksmith that I called said they can make a copy of the key but whereas and use the same programming sequence that I did.

No Ken I have one (maybe) I left work, drove to the store went in and when I came out went to start it, she fired up and died. I did it again with the same results, I then noticed that the theft light was flashing rapidly. I had the truck towed home, A friend had a key cut via the VIN for me and I tried to program it via the on in run for xx time then of then on in run for xx time method. This has not worked at all. Our local dealer told me over the phone that it was a $400 minimum...to get it going and he emphasized minimum.

I figured it wasn't the easy fix. I can check with some of our Ford techs in the AM and see what they say. I'll let you know.

Jim...I finally got to talk to one of our Master Technicians...he was out sick yesterday. His best guess is that it's a transponder issue...you would have to have a dealer hook it up to the computer for diagnosis. Shouldn't cost any more that 1/2-1 hour labor to at least figure it out. If it's that simple...they should also be able to program the keys in that time frame.

Not bad of a fix ken $149 and that included the tow. Once again knowledge is power, by talking to them and them realizing that I knew the how what and whys, eliminated some of the diagnostic fees that I was being told had to be done before.

Yes I think that I did. I talked to a guy at work that had the same thing done to his truck (F150) at the same place and he paid double the amount and he had AAA tow it in. He was charged diagonistic fees, programming fees for the Pats module and $60 for the key and programming of it. I am very happy with the outcome of this.
