Loss of electrical power

Yesterday my son was on a 300 mile trip pulling a car trailer. While driving in the rain, all electrical shut off, wipers, dash lights, everything. The truck coasted to a stop on the side of the road.

He tried the key...nothing.

He jumped out opened the hood and checked the battery connections. They were tight. Looked around, couldn't see anything. He slammed the hood (gonna call home) and everything started up. (Not the engine, he had to turn the key) He must have left the key on, wipers started, dash lights came on. He drove home without incident. I drove around last night and couldn't get the problem.

Anyone else have any problem of this sort,....??

Not sure, Gordon. Intermittent problems suck, with any luck it will either never happen again or often enough for your dealer to track it down.

The only thing I could suggest is do a wiggle test on wire looms. Gentle start to move looms just a little at a time. I have found tons of problems with that method. I wish you the best. Paul

I had a volkswagon do that to me several times. I would be driving along and everthing would shut off. It was a five speed and I could pop the clutch and it would just take right back off again. Dealer tried the trial and error appoach and could not find the problem. They finally went through the entire electrical system and resoldered all the electrical connections and I never had the problem again.

Isn't there an issue on a few trucks where the front suspension rubs the wire bundle on the left side?
To add to Hdslider's idea, inspect and/or gently poke on that bundle (also) to see what happens.

Kper 05. Indead on the left inner fender right above spring. There is a wire harness that is known to have rubbed through. It lays right on steel.

I'll have a look for that.

I've been driving the truck all week, and no issue. I'm pulling my 5th wheel for an 1200 trip in three weeks, so I hope all is ok.
