Ranger radio bulb?

I have a 1987 Ranger with the am/fm cassette radio that the display is blank because the bulb is burnt out. I would like to have the bulb before I tear the dash apart so I can do everything at one time. Does anyone know what the bulb size/number is and where to buy one?

It is a dealer part, and the price will surprise. About $5 for a bulb the size of a hefty grain of rice. OK, puffed rice. I don't know if it is available from anywhere else. At least removal is pretty simple. The two pieces to the left and right of the steering column snap in and out after you remove the headlight switch **** and the cigarette lighter socket. Then it is 4-6 screws across the bottom, and, I think, 4 across the underside of the padded dash. Pull the bottom towards you, and then slide to the passenger side. You may have to use a flat blade to get the upper panel to start passing the edge of the dash pad. Then a couple screws and the radio pulls out. I don't think you have to even disconnect the speaker, power or antenna connections. There is a button on the headlight switch that releases the **** when you depress it, and pull the **** & shaft out. That will turn on the headlights, so if you didn't disconnect the battery, you should push the **** in gently to turn them off. The tip is tapered, so it will re-connect by just pushing it in all the way.

^ Isn't necessary, Tricky. I spotted the thread, fell off the chair laughing at what this person paid for the bulb.

What Ford dealer did'ja buy this bulb from, Ben Dover Motors? Or did'ja buy it from P. T. "there's a sucker born every minute" Barnum?

D4AZ-13466-A .. Radio Bulb / Bulb Industry #37 / Available from Ford.

MSRP: $0.69 // FTE Ford Dealer sponsor tousleyfordparts.com price: $0.45.

Autoparts stores will have the #37 bulb, so there's no reason to buy it from a Ford dealer.

If y'all have the owners manual, all the bulbs and their applications are listed in it. Don't have one? You can buy a new original from helminc.com plus a lotta other FoMoCo literature.

When I worked at Beverly Hills Ford in the 1960's, a smarmy customer came to the counter, asked to buy a pair of license plate frames. We usually gave them away when asked, but this was too good an opportunity to pass up.

Customer waltzed oughtta the parts department, happier than a pig in **** after paying 20 bucks for the frames. Proof of which that "there's a sucker born every minute!"

Thanks for the insults, dummy. I bought the bulb almost 20 years ago for a different vehicle, and at that time none of the parts houses carried them. The price was closer to $3, and was the MSRP for it back then. It may have included the carrier, I don't remember that part. I figured that things had likely gone up in that time, so threw out the number.
Excuse me for posting.

D4AZ-13466-A .. #37 radio bulb was introduced in 1974 FoMoCo Passenger Cars. So your the statement that the bulb wasn't available 20 years from autoparts stores is false. You're excused for not knowing this.

Now, besides calling me names for paying the retail price at the Ford dealer, you are calling me a liar, i.e., perpetrator of falsehoods purposefully. I checked availability, as the dealer was further away than Advance Auto Parts.

My memory of the price was wrong.

The original invoice from Cherokee Ford, 09/05/2002 for
E6DZ-138765-E was for $4.73 + tax was the bulb for the clock.

Troncalli LM invoice for
D4AZ*13466*A BLB ASY-LP $1.41 + tax. The radio bulb.

Troncalli was 20 miles away. Cherokee Ford about 7. Advance about 3.

You may know your parts, but you should not claim to know what was stocked and where, nor what they cost.

The original post was about changing the bulb in the radio and what that entailed. That is why I posted. Not to get into name-calling and such about my 'smartness' and whether I am peddling falsehoods or not.
have a nice day.

I did NOT call you a liar. I said your statement was false, but added: You're excused for not knowing this.

E6DZ-13B765-E is the clock bulb and its retainer. Ford did not offer the bulb by itself. Current MSRP: $7.17 / Tousley Ford discount price: $4.73.

btw: I can tell you what EVERY FoMoCo Dealer's parts department in the USA has in stock, because I have access to the in-house FoMoCo Dealer Parts Locator System.

So, anyway, I went to advance auto parts.

The #37 bulb lists at $4.99. Each.

Is that false also?

That's what Advance charges for it, but...

Go to Tousley Ford's website (tousleyfordparts.com). click on Home, a box will appear that you can type the Ford part number in.

D4AZ-13466-A = MSRP: $0.69 // FTE member discount price: $0.45.

Not shown on their site (for an obvious reason) is the dealer net cost price: $0.41.
