I'm going to bite the bullet, as it were, and try and replace my spark plugs and coils this weekend.

I've ordered a set of ten Accel Super Coils ($300 for the set of ten) and will be using Motorcraft AGSF22WM plugs.

I've downloaded the Autolite video on how to change out these plugs to my iPhone to review again and again.

Question: The video says to "crack" the plugs loose 1/8 of a turn and then apply some spray carb cleaner and let that sit for one hour (or longer) to dissolve the carbon.

Would it not be better to first squirt in some bolt loosening solution and let that work for a few hours and then try and crack the plug loose?

Then, apply the carb spray for the carbon and wait until the next morning.

Thoughts on this, anyone?

 

I Prefer the MSD coils personally ..... Accell is good too however .....As far as plugs go I would install these plugs E3 Spark Plugs They were tested by several Engineering Schools and they improve fuel combustion efficiency by 10-15 % over ANYTHING else ..... the guy said something about hydrolocking in the Video on the removal proceedure IIRC ...the main thing is being patient

 

Personally I'd avoid anything but the Motorcraft COP's Scooter---I've done this swap using Granatelli's and it wasn't an improvement at all. In fact when the weather changes more to my liking and I'm a bit more motivated the OEM COP's will be reinstalled, Granatelli's offered on Craig's List for cheap cheap cheap. From what I've read here on FTE Accel gets a bad rep but I can't speak directly about them.

If your van will be sitting a few days while you're in process of changing the plugs its not a bad idea to hit each hole with some penetrating solution before cracking them that first time---can't hurt. Pay close attention to the video, watch it several times if needed.

As Blageurt suggests be patient---that alone will pay dividends. You can also post this same question in the V10 forums. Doesn't matter what chassis or body they have---the maintenance steps should be very very similar.

You've got a great adventurous spirit so I don't think you need luck---persistence and patience I'll send though.
