Rear sump pan dip stick.

Rear sump pan dip stick.
I put a rear sump pan on my 351C and I was looking at the dip stick and it looked strange to me.The dip stick it self only sticks out of the tube about a inch,is that right? It is the right dip stick,Ford part #D7TE-6750-BA.The add and safe marks are up in the tube, how does it read the oil level?.
I read that it takes 6 qt. of oil with the rear sump,is that with a filter?

The rear sump dipstick tube is probably about 2 feet long and has a mounting tab that bolts to one of the exhaust ports monifold bolts.
The pan holds 6 qts and 1/2 qt for the filter but there is nothing wrong with just running 7 qts in it. With 7 qts the level in the pan isn't close enough to the cranks rod throws to make any difference.
