Exclamation E4OD Overdrive light flashing, hard shifts, low on fluid

Hey guys,

Im hoping someone can tell me what this all means. On my way to work this morning, once the truck warmed up, the OD light started flashing on and off consistently I pulled over immediately and checked my fluid level. It was low so I suspected that was the reason the OD light was flashing. I limped it home, 10min, and put 2L of ATF in her to bring it back to level. The light still flashes with proper amount of ATF. Now I check my fluids regularly so it must have lost a lot in matter of a week or so. What does this all mean? Would really appreciate any input here

You need to read the codes. That will point you in the right direction...

Went to a local trans shop and the code that they pulled said the TC slipped. He erased the codes went for a drive and checked again and it didn't pull any codes. Is my TC on its way out or does this just randomly happen sometimes? Drives fine now

I've lost 3 E4ODs (heavy towing, & snow plowing...), and they all started with excessive TC slippage...
Low fluid would contribute to that, though. I'd run it, and if it doesn't throw that code again, I'd count my blessings. If it does continue slipping, change the TC before it lets go. When they go, they usually take the rest of the trans with them.

have you checked your solenoid pack plug yet?
this is lengthy but i found the reason for code 62 (converter slip) eventually;
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...code-62-a.html

had i not eventually found the issue,my next step would have been testing to solenoid pack.

see,the issue with assuming its a mechanical failure (converter) is,that if you replace it,which costs hundreds, and it's not the problem, your out $ and still left with a slipping converter.
for me,as you can see,the miles on the truck didn't add up to failing converter,so i was determined to rule that out until proven otherwise.

as to why she was low on fluid though.you'll want to find out.are you running her too hot, that she's puking out the front seal,or is it just a minor trans pan leak.you need to know and fix this of course.

So I am 99% that the front seal is leaking oil and I am going to look into the solenoid pack. Thanks a lot for bringing that to my attention, that could save me a bunch of $. I will post results

get your front seal at napa.tell them you want the viton seal.
of course before replacing that, you want to find out if your converter does need to be changed.cus the trans needs to come out, along with the converter.be sick to pull, replace, and need to do it again lol.

I just have a couple questions before I start digging in to this. To test the TC lockup do I have to be driving the truck or can I do it while its parked? Can I test the solenoid pack without dropping the pan? FORDF250HDXLT how did you come to the conclusion that it was your TPS?

because in my searches i found another guy who it had happened to, on oil burners.
i happened to have a basic sensor tester anyway,so i put that on and rotated the tps to see if it had any bad spots.it did,so i replaced it.i had read previously that they are ware item type sensor too,so i would had probably just replaced it even without testing it,rather than waiting for it to fail.
latter,62 came back as you can see in the thread, and that time it was corrosive plugs that i cleaned up.no issues since that thread with 62 (or with the trans at all actually.) im 99% it was the solenoid pack plug, however i did clean and grease the main pcm harness too,so it could have been on that end since i had previously cleaned the pack plug.tough to say.one things for sure, the pcm to solenoid didn't have a clean connection that time, and caused 62.
i think i updated the MLPS to the newer style plug after that, but just because i knew i should,so i wouldn't have that to deal with it latter (thats unrelated to code 62.)
here is another ongoing thread too, that you surely don't want to miss! with experts on these trans lending advice.

Guess I should have read a bit further Did you test the TC lockup while driving or were you able to hear the click?

both.however before replacing the tps,for some reason the bad tps appeared to trump the fact that i had manually grounded the tc solenoid and the thing still unlocked on me.it was a head scratcher.more searching since,i now feel more inclined to think it was just a dirty solenoid pack plug even after just cleaning it then too.not too sure on that one.i got lucky tracing it out and fixing my issue.be it that a faulty tps could alter the lockup state,or had it been just bad connections,im not all that sure of today.two issues fixed at once though,so i was good to go in the end.i do still have plans on installing a racerx converter to replace the failure prone oem though.

Ok so I have fully read the post and feel pretty good about going about solving this. I have never felt my TC slip or heard any strange noises from the bell housing. Never seen RPM's jump or any other signs that the TC is going. My fluid is clean and doesn't smell burnt so without testing anything I have a hard time thinking its my TC. This may be an off topic question but there is a solenoid actuator looking thing right in the passenger corner of engine bay close to firewall. Do you know what this is, if not I can post a pic. Anyways the reason I ask is because I moved the little actuator arm and am wondering if that could be the reason I got code 62. It may be a stupid question but I am quite noobish Thanks for your help!

with the little vacuum tube going to it?
that's just for your blend door for heat/outside air.
unrelated to your electronically controlled trans.
