Fan Clutch removal 95 F150

Fan Clutch removal 95 F150
I need to install a water pump on my 95 F150 with a 4.9 lit. engine
I'm have a time finding the tools to remove the clutch and fan, from the hub. I first went to Auto Zone and got the wrench set from them, but when I got back, it was the wrong size. Next I got a 5 wrench set and only one wrench size was in the set. I went to NAPA and they didn't have the right set. I think the size I need is 40mm and 57mm. Was 95 a only year for that size? Does anyone know who has the correct wrench set for that 95.
When I get the correct set, how hard is it to get the clutch and fan off?

I don't see how the mounting bolts are that big. I'd say they are probably 7/16 head. Usually the bolts that hold the fan on go through the water pump pulley. I always take the fan and clutch off together as one assembly. I just set it down in the shroud and lean it up against the radiator using a rag to protect the fins on the radiator. I can't imagine the 4.9 is that much different than my 5.0. Its been a while since I worked on an I6 truck though. Do you have a picture of what your talking about?

When I did mine, I got a loaner from Auto Zone and it worked fine. IIRC, they are left hand threads.

The 300 has a different type of fan clutch that threads onto the center of the water pump. To remove/intsall it, you need the special wrench set. One is a huge open end wrench that goes around all 4 of the pulley bolts, and the other removes the clutch from the water pump.

ford66...it's been a long time since I did the water pump on my '89 300 ('03 or '04, IIRC), but I did it pretty much as you just described. I couldn't get the fan off the water pump shaft no matter what I tried, fancy tools included. I don't remember why right now, but the fan AND water pump were a bugger to get off as a unit, but they came off. Once out, I ended up grinding two flats on the old water pump shaft, then chucked it in a vise. I still really had to reef on the wrench to break the fan nut loose. Yours could be left-hand thread, but unless it says something to that effect on the fan shroud, I'd assume right-hand thread.
But I live in central PA...EVERYTHING rusts here.
Good luck...

I struggled getting my fan clutch off all afternoon with no solid progress. The nut won't seem to break loose and I can't get the pulley to stop spinning. I'm using a fan clutch set I rented with a 39mm wrench (fits on the nut perfectly), but I can't get either the 54mm or 57mm wrench to keep the pulley from spinning. I'm afraid that one of the bolts holding the pulley on are going to get stripped or sheared off.
Any advice is welcomed.

I know this is an old thread but what I have found is that a 4.9 with a V -Belt has left hand threads, (old models), The later models with a serpentine belt has right handed threads, ( regular normal threads), standing in front of the truck turn it counter clock wise to take it off.
This is about the treads on the water pump that holds the fan and fan clutch on.
