2013 Explorer Sport...NOW WITH MORE ECOBOOST

Looks like the Explorer picked up the Ecoboost V6 as an option for 2013.

New Ford Explorer Sport: Fuel-Efficient, High-Performance SUV Features Inspired Design Cues, EcoBoost V6 Engine | Ford Motor Company Newsroom

Kinda bummed the towing rating didn't increase though (it's still 5,000lbs). You would think with more power, bigger brakes, and more chassis reinforcement it could tow more. At least enough to match the V6 Durango (6,200lbs).

Interesting article...I bet it's a blast to drive. Don't hold your breath...I just got the latest Explorer Order Guide and there's no mention of it.

It's not an article, it's a press release. They just announced it today.

If by "ways out", you mean available for purchase later this year.

For what it's worth, the ecoboost slaps my F-150 around like a wet dish rag and that's with the 3.31 axles.

I can only imagine the fun that could be had in an Explorer with the EB 3.5L.

Speaking of which, It was pretty interesting to me to find that the Explorer Sport has 3.16 axles. Now, the Explorer's transmission is geared lower than the F150's, but when you run the numbers, it's about the same as an F150 with 3.55 axles.

Being the Explorer is rated for 16/22 with that 3.16 rear, it seems to me that Ford's fuel economy ratings for Ecoboost F150 were done with 3.55 axles. That offers a pretty good explanation as to why people with 3.73 axle EB F150s are seeing worse than rated fuel economy on average.

Got it, docs attached. Too bad you can't get sterling grey, with everything blacked out, it would've looked real good.
