Oil Filter

I have been having a heck of a time finding the Part number for a moto craft oil filter for my 1993 Bronco 5.8. I have the fram number, but dont want to use one on it.

Anybody help me out? BTW ford's motocraft site is messed up, when through there process only for it to tell me they didnt have anything that matched my criteria.

Anyways. Help would be appreciated.

Big_Rob, I dont have my vin on hand. Obiviously i could go read it. But for some reason when i enter 1993 Bronco 5.8l it tells me no parts match my criteria.

Any ways. Now we have conflicting filters...

FL-820
or
FL1A

I don't think much changed from 93 to 94 like mine. I just ran the 93 on that site and I get the same error. But if you change the year to 94 5.8 you will get the result.

yes there is a difference. in 94 the 5.8 got the oil cooler which uses a different filter then the previous years. I run purolator filters and for your 93 i think it should be a
P30001.

IF you have the oil cooler between the filter and the block it will have two small hoses going to the lower radiator hose. IF so you need the shorter filter FL-820SL if my memory is correct.

If not go with the FL-1A

FL1A...

300 - FL1A
302 - FL1A
351W - FL1A
351m - FL1A
400m - FL1A
460 -FL1A
...and just about every other Ford mill from the mid sixties through the advent of the modular engines near the turn of the century. If you want someone else's P/N for it just cross reference it against the OEM (Motorcraft) FL1A. The ONLY reason the FL820 was used was so that the added depth of the oil cooler ring would not make the oil filter protrude further from the block than the FL1A did without the cooler fitting behind it. The FL820 is physically shorter than the FL1A but otherwise the same. The FL1A can still be used on vehicles with the oil cooler if you can get in in place.

FL-820S for 94 ( some)and up

My 94 5.8 and the excursion use the same one...

The difference is threads/hole diameter. New ones use the metric 820s with silicone valve for anti drain back. They are not interchangeable.
93 should use the FL1A.

Ok then... guess I have the P/N wrong because there is a "short version" of the FL1A with a different number. I still question the validity of this. There would have been no reason to change filter types in 94. The engines didn't change. Why would the filter change?

My 94 5.8 had the short filter when I bought it. I measured the length then went to a parts store and measured the FL1A . I decided the FL1A might fit if you did not need room to screw it on and off. I did not know the threads/holes are different. My 94 has the towing package which included the oil cooler under the filter.

supposedly it is a metric/SAE thing...and supposedly the 820s anti-drainback helps with dry oil-less starting...
