352FE Harmonic Balancer question

352FE Harmonic Balancer question
Thought I'd see who wanted to weigh in on this... I'm upgrading my 66' 352 slick to power steering and in doing that will be installing the double belt crank pulley.
Of course the two belt pulley that I have is a three bolt and the original was a 4 bolt. (and my pulley is just back from powder coat so I think I'll keep it.)
Sooo.... I will need to replace the original harmonic balancer. The question....
is there any benefit to buying an aftermarket balancer vs one from the pull yard and if so, can someone recommend a good quality aftermarket one?
thanks as always to the brain trust for always coming up with sage advice.

Look on the balancer you have now, post the stamped ID number from it..to determine if it's the original or from a 1968/76.

You cannot and you do not need to!

The harmonic balancer you use MUST match the flywheel or there will be a vibration that will eventually tear the center from it. I kid you not!
Where on earth will you find the CORRECT FE harmonic balancer that matches your engine that has a two sheave pulley made as part of it...since there's no such thing.
C3AZ-6312-E (replaced COAE-6312-B) .. 1960/67 352/390/410/428 Harmonic Balancer-Includes a single sheave pulley / Marked: C4AE-6316-A or C4AE-6316-B
This is so simple a cave man can do it. All you have to do is bolt an ACCESSORY OUTER pulley to your present harmonic balancer. This is correct FoMoCo procedure.
Since it already has one sheave pulley, you will either need a single or double sheave outer pulley. BUT, first...what you need to find out is...if your present balancer is the original, or from a 1968/76.
I'm not sure if the C3AZ-6312-E balancer has three or four holes to mount accessory outer pulleys.
Nor can I recall how many holes D5TZ-6316-A (replaced C8AZ-6316-A & D2TZ-6316-A) 1968/76 360/390 balancer has.
But...I think 1960/67 has THREE holes, 1968/76 has FOUR, but like I said, I'm not sure and haven't seen any since the 1980's.

found a pulley at the yard which is a C8AE-6312-C - double sheave from a '68. (also pulled the PS brackets and pump) Internet recon says it's for a 360. Pardon the rookie question but just seeking reassurance from wiser minds, Since I got the pulley and the PS brackets I shouldn't have a problem with fitment on my 352 right?

If a 1968/71 (1968/76) 4 mounting hole outer pulley will bolt to your harmonic balancer, either the engine has been swapped or someone installed a 1968/76 balancer.

Not sure if it's as much about the number of mounting holes as is the dia. of the 3 hole pattern. Seem to recall searching for a 2-3 sheeve pulley for the 65 390 I salvaged a couple from donor only to get home to find the hole pattern was too large; although, not the first time got home after a 'pic n pull' salvage shopping spree only to find it was not the correct donor part.

I dunno how it could be possible to mount a 1968/76 4 hole outer accessory FE pulley to a 1960/67 FE harmonic balancer, since it only has 3 mounting holes.
If the outer pulley you bought wouldn't fit, it wasn't for 1960/67 FE engine. There were six different outer pulleys used 1960/67, all these puppies are listed in post 6.
The reason for the duplicates has to do with O/A diameters, sheave widths.

There are about 100 outer pulleys used on myriad 1960/70's engines. I'd have to look up every engine family, then see how many bolts are required to mount the outer pulleys to the balancer.
That's waaay above and beyond "the call of duty."

clear as mud. Sorry for any confusion, My 2 toddlers have turned my brain to mush.
Existing pulley was a single sheave, three bolt crank pulley off of my '66 352.
Replacement pulley is a two sheave, three bolt crank pulley off of a '68 360. (C8AE-6312-C stamped on it )
