"lifter" tick.. Cause for concern?
Recently my 2000 F350 CC V10 has a pretty noticeable clicking whenever I start the truck when it's cold and you can hear it Im the cab. It comes for the back passenger side of the motor and changes with the rpms. After about 2 min it will suddenly stop and not come back untill the truck sits all night. I run Mobil 1 5-30 and a FL820s filter. I put a mechanical guage on for the oil pressure and it's between 45-47 psi cold at 1100 rpm. I was told it could just be a lifter loosing oil pressure but is this a sign of more trouble like an oil pump? The truck has 159,000 on it and from what I can tell was well taken care of. It'd just got me paranoid because im new to the v10. Any ideas would help or should I just let it be?

The truck has broken studs. I don't know the exact term but it's what's similar to a lifter I'm guessing. It's a metallic clicking and goes away after a min but I know it's coming from the top end pass side valve cover area. I plan on pulling it this weekend and lookiong for anything out of the ordinary.

then I would move on to the next thing, plan on doing the manifolds over a weekend and soak them with pb during the week
I've also heard about piston slap on these triton engines which could be what your experiencing? might want to look into that as I don't know a ton about these gas engines

When I purchased my truck it made a wierd "metallic" sound and the salesmen (I know most have rocks for brains) said "It's just the Ford lifters." After I signed on the dotted line I set up a service appointment as it was still under warranty. Sure enough bad manifold and rotted studs. Not saying this is your problem but the noise followed the rpms and sounded super weird. And this truck only had 25k on the clock!

Im glad mine was warrantied as it gets pricey if you dont do it yourself!! Plus there are a pain to get to I guess. Not trying to be a smart "A" but I guess that spending money on a 12 year truck kinda comes with the territory, right? My winter beater Taurus needs a new oil pan gasket, wheel bearing, and I'm sure I'll find something else. But it keeps my truck out of the salt!!!

Just an update, I replaced the spark plugs today and I noticed that my passenger side valve cover is leaking pretty good enough to leave a few plugs pretty oily as well as the top of the COP boots. Would the valve cover gaskets leaking pretty bad when the truck is cold the rubber dries up I assume this could cause all sorts of oiling problems to the cam and cam followers and cam followers by having the oil leak out?
