Started my truck (2007 EB 4x4, 5.4) this morning with my daughter in her car seat behind me, we get about 1/4 mile down the street and all of a sudden I notice myself moving!

My daughter starts freaking out, I pull over and my seat is still moving. I end up COMPLETELY reclined, all the way down and all the way back. The seat pinned my daughter in her seat, she's flipping out...I had to unbuckle her car seat while she's screaming because her legs are pinned and have to slide her car seat out sideways with her in it.

Seat does NOT move at all.

Now, before all of this I had heard a "ticking" sound coming from inside my seat, been doing it for months but since everything worked and not dummy lights came on I just ignored it. Apparently, this was not a good idea because now it is not ticking and the seat is not working....

Going to check fuses later but I am doubting that is the problem...

Anyone run into a similar problem? I had to drive to work this way this morning and I drive 50k a year, I NEED this fixed but don't want to just throw money at it!

Sounds like either the switch has a short or the control module/motor glitched. Those are the only two parts that would make the seat move. I would start with replacing the switch.

 

If the switch, are all the buttons tied together because the seat went down, back AND reclined all on it's own?...I tried turning the truck off then on and pressing all of the buttons, nothing happens...

 

Hmmm. That is strange. Was it just the seat reclining? Did it move in any other way?

 

It lowered itself all the way, went back as far as it could and then fully reclined.....all on it's own, while I was driving. I have not checked the power pedals or passenger seat for operation yet.

 

It must be something that controls the seat position glitching. Might be worth taking it to the dealer.

Well considering that I have 124k on it and this is it's first problem, I'd say that isn't to shabby....

 

its all in how high your expectations are i guess.

No use arguing. You are very lucky to only have this issue with that many miles.

 

I agree, most foreign ones aren't even that trouble free. Mine, aside from this, still looks, drives and runs like new....

 

i dont know, seems like if they kept manual seats you wouldnt have this problem anyhow. i just wish stuff would last longer instead of the other ways. makes me sad when i see our 2000 ex door hinges saggin some. when our 75 f250 has no sag in the hinges.

 

If there was a utopia all cars would run 100% , 100% of the time and last forever....Utopias aren't realistic and apparently, neither are you.
I recommend you sell your 2000 and buy another 75.

 

i believe things should get better, not worse. take my door hinge example. dont know why your so willing to accept a worse product design. to each their own tho.
