I just got a 2012 6.2 and absolutely love it, I am getting about 11.5 overall gas mileage and was wondering if anyone had done anything to their truck to improve fuel economy.

 

Congrats on the new SD 6.2L! So...what gears you running? Keeping with stock OEM tires?

If it's a long box, a bed cover will help a little, doesn't seem to make much difference on a short box. exhaust and intake would also help a little, but these things are going to take a VERY long time to pay for themselves in fuel savings.

 

I have a 11 HD with the 6.2, I get 15.4 on the highway, the key is keeping that engine under 2000rpm, if I'm slightly over that it goes down to 14.7, in 6th gear (auto) at 79mph it will get 14.7. Hope this helps.

Things to do to get the best mileage you can:

1. Run the least agressive stock size tires you can live with - i originally had the michelin ltx 2s and they seemed nice an quiet but over a few thousand miles they developed bad run out (out of round) and wouldn't give me a smooth ride. So i went with what I know works on these trucks (BFG ATs), great riding tire but i'm sure they chewed up some MPGs.

2. Dont run the truck w/o the bumper valance - i ripped my original off in a mudhole and replaced with the shorter 2wd version, I think it looks better but feel that few inches of valance could account for some MPGs.

Those two small changes alone could be costing me about 1mpg. I think that I would feel a little better seeing my overall averge nearly 14mpg rather than just under 13mpg.

 

Buy a Prius.

 

got it, sorry, I was a little slow putting that together LOL!

 

There is no magic mpg pill...Simply keep the tires inflated properly, general maintenance up and slow down. Intake and exhaust will be at best marginal and at worst you will lose mpg. Same with a tuner. E80 gas is not as common here in Canada and from what I've read here that may be detrimental to mpg too.
