Engine Size

How do I determine what size the engine is in my 1983 ford f150 4X4? Is there any information stamped on the truck. I do know that it is eight cylinders simply looking at the distributor cap.

Are any of the emissions or information stickers still on the rad support, or under the hood? They will say.

If it's a V8, it's either going to be a 302 (5.0L) or 351 (5.8L).

Post the 8th digit of your vin. That will tell you at least what engine your truck was born with.

A real quick reference is to measure across the intake. A 302 will be 7 1/2", a 351 will be 9". I visually do that at the scrapyards because you never know what's been done.

or just post up a pic, most that have dealt with the trucks long enough can tell you by intake design / dimensions and / or valve cover bolt pattern.
