i'm looking for some wheels for a 1960 f250 4x4. preferably something similar to the originals. if anyone knows of a source for these, i would appreciate it.

 

The original "pizza cutter" wheels and tires, as pictured below, are to me the best looking. The wheels are Budd #71410, 19.5" x 5.25", and tires are 8-19.5 bias ply. Finding the wheels would take detective work, but would be worth the effort. I have a friend with a full set, not for sale, and I have the start of a set, not for sale. I'm waiting for my guy to part out the truck to get the rest. A full set was on Craigs List in NH a few months ago, and a partial set was on ebay about the same time. Stu

 

from what i understand from Bill, "aka numberdummy", if your F250 has the wide lip front fenders it came with 16in tires. if you have the skinny lip front fenders your F250 came with either 17.5 or 19.5 wheels. if you have the wide lip i doubt 19.5s would clear. might be worth checking out. and welcome to FTE!

 

I don't recall saying anything about a lip, there's no parts catalog reference for a lip, either. You also have the applications wrong.

1953/97 F250, 1967/97 F350, 1975/2012 E250/350 have 8 lug wheels on a 6.50" bolt circle.

AFAIK, you can use any of these 16" wheels on your F250 4WD. Most of these wheels after 1967 are not split rims aka "widow makers."

If your F250 4WD has hubcaps on the rear wheels (some came with them, some did not), after 1967, Ford changed the way hubcaps are mounted.

And, Ford did not offer front hubcaps for 4WD's until 1967.

 

Sorry Bill, not trying to put words in your mouth. i was under the impression that there were two styles of front fenders. one with a smaller wheel opening and a wide lip or flare like on a F100. And another with a larger opening with a narrow lip or flare like i have on my 60 F250 4x4. After looking at the pics Stu posted i can see that they had a fender with a wide opening and the wider flare or lip. Seems they made at least three styles of front fenders in 1960 but i have no idea now if mine are stock or if they came off a truck bigger than a F250.

 

What can a person expect to pay for a full set of 19.5x5.25 pizza cutter steel rims?

 

Buying them from a knowledgeable seller would cost well over $1000 for a set of four. They can still be found in yards for less but then you have your time, travel, gas, etc to factor in with no guarantee that you’d find them. You may also have to piece a set together by watching CL or ebay. This below seller says he has two. Stu

thank you for getting back with me. I am new to this forum , any forum actually, I have always been a Ford guy, not sure how this all works. I think I have to post several times before I can utilize this site to sell some of my Ford parts, is that correct? Well , I do have 4 steel 8 hole rims with used tires in very good condition, I am in the process of going thru my 45 ft" shipping container, 48 ft. Semi trailer both with lots of parts from my wife & I Bodyshop we had for 40 years. My wife & I sold the Shop in 2015, but have collected misc. parts during that tenure. I’ll send you some pictures of the wheels as we move forward going thru stuff. The rims are 19.5 x 5.25 . Thank for getting back to me, I have had many Ford pickups, always restored them and always spent too much in the process but if it isn’t done right don’t do it. Thru the rebuilds I have managed to acquire parts and always was looking ahead to my next build. I’ll have to check and see how long before I can post items for sale. Thanks again.

I'm just running a set of later-model 16's on mine. Not sure what they came off of, but all of the big 3 used the 8-on-6.5 bolt pattern for their 3/4 and 1-ton trucks for a LONG time. I did find that the set of 16's I have on my 79 K30 will not fit on my ford - the inside of the wheel hangs on the outside of the front drums ever so slightly.

 

Another route would be period 16" innie wheels ( hard to find, but easier to find than 19.5's ) with some 7.50-16 bias ply mud and snows. I am trying to establish approximate value on neat older Ford parts and what is interchangeable with them if any at all. Who better to be a mentor other than experienced Ford guys like yourself? Knowledge about older vehicles takes the input from fellow like minded people. I have always had Fords as did my Dad. I took my drivers license test in a 1970 Ford Torino Cobra 429CJ and had it for many years, sold it to start a business along with my 1970 Mercury Cyclone 429SCJ, kick myself in the keister many times for doing that but it had to be at the time. Have had 6 Ford trucks since, nothing newer than my 1992 F350 4x4 crewcab with 7.3 ATS turbo diesel . I am somewhat amazed at the price of older Ford parts, never expected to see them bring these prices. Thanks for your input and assistance. Hopefully I didn’t get anyone’s shorts in a bunch by asking , sorry if I did.

 

what speed are tires like these rated for do you know? Very aggressive tread pattern.
