First potential issue from the 4wd conversion. The ABS light stays on constantly. The computer says no signal from either front hub. I suppose we could have 2 bad front hubs, but that seems unlikely. Another possibility is some different signal from the '06 4wd system and the '03 2wd system. Anybody got any thoughts? Thanks.

 

Just looked it up and the speed sensor s a different part between 2003 and 2006, so I think you're on the right track.

 

Is there a "frequency" difference or other info where you found that?

 

I don't really know, all I did was look up part numbers.

 

Roger that. I'm thinking this may be an undefeatable wiring harness/computer issue. If we had '03 4wd speed sensors rather than '06 ones, I wonder if my '03 2wd computer would tolerate that or still see it as a problem?

Thanks for the help. Somebody probably knows, but these "Frankentrucks" can present problems no one has ever seen.

 

Anybody know if the light being on necessarily indicates that the ABS will not work properly? Though I haven't breaked hard yet, the brakes seem to work fine.

 

IIRC when the ABS light is on the system is completely disabled. You will have regular braking capability, but there will be no antilock function.

In my opinion this is worth fixing.

 

I agree, but wonder if it's possible short of a whole wiring harness change. May have to involve the dreaded dealer.

 

Wonder if the '03 2wd and 4wd used the same part? If so, an '03 sensor replacement should fix it.

 

Turns out there is no simple solution. The plan for now is to be ABS-less unless something else turns up as an option.
