Has anyone been to the scales with a single cab short bed f150, or know an accurate estimate of the weight? I'm putting together a list of specs for a reincarnation distributor, and I'm not really finding a number that I trust

 

My single cab, short bed '84 F-150, 300, 4x4, 4 speed weighs 4,950 lbs with me sitting in it, and I weigh about 200 lbs. And that's according to the scales at my local scrap yard.

 

wow, thats a lot higher than I was expecting. I've read a bunch of posts around 4000 lbs or so.

 

My door sticker says gross vehicle weight of 5500, for my 86 F150 4x2 SWB. I was also figuring on about 4000-4400 lbs at normal operating weight on the street. It'll be interesting to see what others chime in with. Maybe they can also weigh the front and rear axles so we can also compute the weight bias. How is the build coming, anyway?

so far the build is slow, but thats about to turn around. I work 6 days a week and I'm at work for 10-12 hours a day, so it doesn't leave much time. I've decided to outsource the regear (they are at the shop now), so that is a good load off my shoulders. I'll start building the engine this weekend while I'm waiting for my lift components to get powdercoated. After that, I should have a rolling chassis by next week when I get the axles back, then I can start on the rocker panels, cab corners and roof. I will be finishing up at my company in another 3 months or so, so my goal is to have it running by then, since its in my bosses hanger at the moment

 

I hear ya'. I figure my build will take another year at least. I am doing it all by myself, so its a slow go. I am so looking forward to working with clean metal, though. Slowly, but surely.

What I started with is the same, only 2 years newer. So my calculations are in the ballpark. Any idea of the weight bias?

I weighted mine at the quarry and it was right at 4000#, but I doubt it had been calibrated. 3750 would be awesome ! I've been chatting about T-5 installs and at that weight it would help.

So, why ask about weight bias?

 

Mostly curiosity. I've swapped out the I-6 for a 408 stroker, with aluminum heads and manifold, and then out back, deleted the leaf springs for a four link suspension. I was going to use air bags, but have decided to use coil-overs out back. I may eventually have to swap out the springs to better tailor the ride, but they're not expensive. Once completed, I'll take it down to the local performance shop and check it on their chassis dyno and get them to use their vehicle scales on it to get a weight on each wheel. I plan to use if for fun/weekend cruising, so it's not critical, but I am curious.

I wonder what the unladen weight of an 84 150 longbed would be? It’s automatic without a/c

 

Depends on how it was equipped at the factory. Page 17 in this link has the info. https://www.garysgaragemahal.com/198...-brochure.html

On page 17, the f150 could have a GVWR of 4900, 5450, or 6100. That is payload package 1, 2 or 3. The payload rating is 1395, 1925, or 2510. So your truck could have a curb weight of;

4900-1395=3505lbs

5450-1925=3525lbs

6100-2510=3590lbs
