1987 F-150 302 V-8 EFI IAC MOTOR

Hello everyone.

After reading several postings on the subject of IAC motors and rough idle I am considering changing my recently purchased after market IAC motor from Advance Auto Parts to a Motorcraft IAC motor. I have tuned the engine, replaced the TPS, fixed vaccum leaks, ect. Unfortunately, my 87 F-150 302 V-8 still has idle issues. I have yet to change out the distributor cap, coil or rotor. Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks as always.

well even new IAC's are bad, I have an aftermarket one and its a bit weird but whats it doing? it wont idle right? you should pull codes and secondly if you have the time you should remove the throttle body and clean it. Could also be the throttle position sensor. Gotta do a tune up if you haven't in a while so you can start eliminating from there.

Help

I have replaced the TPS and cleaned the throttle body, ect. Hopefully when I pull the codes on Monday I will have a better idea of what is going on. The vehicle takes a moment to start and the idle has a tendency to die shortly after starting. Eventually, once it gets running it levels out to around 750 rpm but it takes several minutes for this to occur. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated and a merry christmas to you.

Merry Christmas to you too, and umm well I really want to see what effect changing the plugs will do, coils tend to fail when they are hot and this is not the case lol. Fuel pressure got to check that out!

Help

I will change out the fuel filter and see if that helps. This truck was won by myself off of an EBAY auction for $670.00 It had been setting up for years in Kansas and was a one owner with the original Ford glass, white camper shell, ect. Man, was it dirty and filthy but it cleaned up rather well. I ran several bottles of Sea Foam thru the vaccum line and it seemed to help a little.
