I have had my truck with the 6.2 engine since March, and with 12,000 miles on it, it has been in the shop for the better part of 3 week. It started "missing" on cold morning and would spit and sputter for about 5 miles until it warmed up, and the dealership replace "a valve" which fixed the problem for a couple of days. On the next cold day, it took nearly 20 miles for it to start running smooth, and once it smoothed out, it ran great. I carried it back to the dealership two weeks ago, and they told me today that they nor Ford have a clue what the problem is.

According to the dealership rep, they have replaced two injectors, coils, spark plugs, and wires, and nothing has corrected the problem.

Has anyone here had or heard of similar problems?

I really like my truck, but I am not interested in having a "new" truck with a rebuilt motor (if it comes to that).

How "cold" is a cold morning in your parts?

 

Cannot be that cold as he is in Texas. Up here so far I have been starting mine at temps down to -25C (about -5F) and no problems. I am thinking he has to have some sort of isolated problem in his truck. Might be a bugger to track down.

 

The truck started acting up when the temps got down into the 40's.

I just got a call from the dealership a few minutes ago, and they are now waiting on a whole new computer which won't be here until Friday.

 

sorry to hear you're having bad luck. I seem to remember someone on here a while ago saying that thier truck did stumble some on cold mornings but only for a minute. Didn't sound nearly as severe as yours, also I think this guy was tuned? not sure. keep us posted!

 

I do have the same problem, but only for about 1/4 mile then it runs fine. And yes it is only on cold mornings, under 30 degrees. But if I plug in the truck at night it runs fine with no sputter.

 

Strange, I'll keep an eye on mine as I live in a much colder climate. So far so good. We haven't had any -40 stuff yet. About the coldest so far this winter had been around -20F.

 

Are you guys using remote start? Are you starting the truck and immediately driving off without a "warmup"?

 

I don't have remote start, and I always let my truck warm up before taking off. I have been starting up and driving the truck the same since I bought it. The only thing that has changed is the temperture.

You would think with all of the diagnostic equipment and test procedures a dealership has they wouldn't be swapping parts hoping to get lucky and fix it.

Isn't there someone from the factory that could help the dealer figure out what is wrong with it?

One problem is the cost of the trucks go up, quaility goes down and neither the factory or dealer really know or care if there is a problem.

 

The "computer" has been showing a miss on two cylinders, and what I have been told is that "the factory" is telling the technician what procedure to follow in trying to fix it.

 

If they are being directed by Ford as to the direction to follow they should find the fix. I just went through a problem with a leak on mine the shop failed to fix and they called Ford for direction. Problem solved and the leak is fixed.
