Hi guys I want to put a second mini fuse box in my truck since i dont have the upfitter switches tey will be used to run fog lights, acc driving lights, air compresser, strobe lights. I seen once a write up on what i need and how to do it but i cant find it anywhere now. I know i have to bring a power wire into the cab off the battery but would i need it on a relay or something so it dont drain my battery's when the truck is off? any help would be much appericated
You can switch the loads individually after the fuse block, it won't draw current by itself. It's probably easier to relay switch each load than get a relay or contactor rated for the total possible load if all of the fuse block circuits were fully loaded.
ok thanks should I though a fuse somewhere inbetween the battery and the fuse block to be on the safe side?
If your fuse block has a placeholder for a high current fuse between the main rail(s) and the input terminal rated for all of the circuit branch fuses combined, then use that (you'll have to use it if it has one), but generally it's considered acceptable protection if you fuse each individual load in case the fuse block you're using does not have a placeholder for one.
The lower current branch fuses will offer more protection to equipment failures or wiring faults.
