OK, so the kid that works for me in the cabinet shop wanted to take the day off so I thought what the heck, I can work on trucks all day. It was a rare sunny beautiful day here and I set about to replacing the drivers side hub on the 54 gmc. I had stolen the hub adapters off it to use on my fridge front hub 8 lug conversion and I'd been driving it (the gmc)with a stack of washers under one of the wheels for about a month and hadn't killed myself or anyone else yet, so off it came. Pounding out bearings and races etc, etc.... Well I got that done by noon and thought what should I tackle on the 59? The cab and bed are from different trucks and while I never do a show type resto, I like my rigs to be presentable so I usually mix up some paint for a touch up. I decided to mix up some semi- gloss meadow green so I can brush paint the problem areas as I fix them and it blends with the old faded paint. I've done this for years. At the end of the day I lined up my old trucks for a photo shoot. I paid less than 8000.00 for all 6 combined and picked away with used parts on the rest of the repairs. I'm headed to a Christmas party right now at one of my wealthy clients house and am running late to meet my sweetie after she gets out of work. I just had such a great day I had to share it with the fridge guys. Heres some pics of today.

Sounds like a great day to me! I really like the group shot. That Rustoleum brush on stuff is fairly durable paint. I did my whole interior and firewall with it. I used a bunch of those cheap Dollar store type foam brushes. You have to work fast 'cause they tend to melt in that stuff after a little while. It usually takes a couple of days for it to harden up since I out it on good and heavy but it really holds up well. Your custom color matching looks pretty close!

Thanks, I lined them up so that every other one was a ford. I'm usually just ford and toyota, but I couldn't resist the cummins powered gmc from a good friend for a thousand bucks. OK, it needed a little fixing and some used tires from my huge tire pile.......

love the fj45. if you ever need to thin the herd let me know. might even be worth trading a marmon herrington for? i have always liked the fj40's, my best friend had one in high school, but i have never seen a 45 with my own eyes. thats gotta be pretty rare? i am also wondering about the front fenders on your f350. they look like they have the wide lip around the wheel opening. i thought that was f100 only and the 250 and 350 had the narrow lip? if i recall number dummy said there were 3 styles of front fenders but shiv if i know what went on what. my 60 has the narrow lip.

 

Don't know about fender lips but this was a state of washington vehicle and original paint so I doubt they changed them. As for my fj 45. Sorry. We take long summer trips in this thing at 60 mph roaring around with no doors. At 58 years old some of my friends think I'm nuts, but we're way more enclosed than all those other white haired guys on their harleys. We get some thumbs up from that crowd out on the road. But thanks for the offer. Bought it in AZ and it had sat 24 years with no engine or tranny. I got a rusty fj 40 for the later 4 spd and running gear. The roof and doors are stored away. I have other stuff to drive when it rains......I'm glad you like it.

 

My '60 F100 has the wide lip front fenders as does the '59 F500 cab I got for parts.

 

ok so i didnt get a picture of the grumman aluminum stepvan with a 6.2 built for the us postal service. We put a couch in the back for the 300 mile journey over the pass to see the relatives in eastern washington for the christmas get together.... wish us luck. this is what stories are made of........we had planned to take the toyota t 100 flatbed, but more of the family wanted to come and we couldnt say no. duh

Epic. It was actually about 500 miles. No snow in the pass, roads bare and wet. The passengers in the back would have been really cold but we had a stretch of mild weather. Dry country on that side of the mountains, but I didn't see any fridge trucks for sale. Nice 2 ton dodge about 1950. I passed on that one. My ears are still buzzing from the drone of that 6.2 in that breadbox at 60 mph. Guess a 'family guy' should have at least one rig with a back seat. Ford didn't make a 'suburban' back in the day, but a guy could cut some windows in a panel...........

 

They did make station wagons!?!
