Okay, I'm a classic Mustang enthusiast, but new to Ford Trucks. I saw this 1966 F-100 F11 on CL and had to have it. It's a work in progress (aren't they all) but I've worked most of the bugs out to date. My question's about how the truck came from the factory in 1966. Does anyone know if the 1966 four wheel drive trucks came from FoMoCo with hubcaps or where the wheels painted white and nothing else?

No front wheel hubcaps were available on F100 4WD's in 1966, but full wheel covers were. 1966: Ford offered wheel covers for the first time for F100 2WD & 4WD.

15" wheel cover with a red plastic emblem in the center. Instead of the emblem, the 4WD's front covers have a red plastic ring that allows the 4WD's hub to poke thru

The optional 4WD 1966/77 F100, 1975/77 F150 wheel covers were standard equipment on 1967/77 Bronco's, have been reproduced.

These same wheel covers were also used on 1966 Galaxie/LTD, but (what was Ford thinking?)...there are four different versions.

F100/150 & Bronco: Bright stainless cone, red plastic emblem, ditto Galaxie/LTD, but these cars offered three other versions as well.

Painted argent cone, red plastic emblem / Painted argent cone, black plastic emblem / Bright stainless cone, black plastic emblem.

 

Grrrrr... Ya got me again... I always forget about the full wheelcovers.
Those wont work on the splut rims as I recall though...I know you will correct me if I am not right

I'm in Olympia. I bought the truck from a family in Walla Walla. They were the second owners and purchased it second hand from the local Ford dealer in 1974. I feel really lucky to have it now. V8, four speed truck, bone stock, 91k miles. Original glass doesn't even have a chip in it. That suggests she wasn't off the farm much. I drive it now and then, but she spends most of her time in the barn with a couple old mustang cousins that are just a couple years younger. I'll have to admit, it makes me smile every time I open the barn door.

Here's How to Post Pictures:

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

I’m pretty sure I know which wheel covers you’re talking about. I think there’s a set on eBay right now…. Item 180767321114. I guess I’ll need to dig a little further to find out if my truck was equipped with wheel covers or not. I’m hoping not, as I really don’t have the money to spend on them right now. I appreciate the quick response to my question. Maybe I can return the favor if you ever get stumped on a classic Mustang question.

The day I get stumped on a classic Mustang question, will be the same day that hell freezes over!

The only way you can determine if wheel covers were originally installed (they were either an option or a dealer installed accessory), is if the wheels haven't been repainted.

There will be marks on the wheels where the covers were snapped on.

There are no records available for vehicles of this vintage, because FoMoCo THREW THEM AWAY decades ago.

The only records (and they are extensive) available are for Shelby's, because 'ol Shel kept them.

Production figures are available, because these were kept for the entire auto industry by R. L. Polk & Co.

Hey guys here's another one. I'm going to replace the front springs on the same truck. The existing brake lines look original or at least quite old and I'll likely destroy them doing the job. I've looked on LCM & Parts Depot for replacement brake lines, but they don't list a part for four wheel drive f-100's. When I called to ask for insight I received little (None actually) help. Parts Depot has front brake lines for a 1966 Bronco in stock. Is it a safe bet those will fit and if not, what's a guy to do?

Still no pics of the truck to post yet. Maybe this weekend....sorry

Measure your lines and place after market Teflon lined DOT hoses with the correct 3/8 inverted flair. Avalible at any 4x4 shop or at places like speedway or Jegs.
