Can anybody tell me anything about the 6.6L 6 cylinder ford diesel? I just bought a 1993 Ford 8830 tractor that has it, and its rated at 170 hp, but i was wondering if anybody knows if it can safely be bumped up to say, 190 hp? also the reliability of the engine?

 

You can bump it up no problem. Very reliable engine. Powershift trans, I think, gave some trouble if not properly looked after.

 

btw...i found something that is really cool looking at work...a 4.6l powerstroke engine that is in one of the fleet trucks speaking of tractor engines and other engines other than the 7.3 IDI or 6.9 IDI....

On the topic of your engine, I know a guy that has run that exact same tractor for a long time...it gives trouble starting if not maintained properly other than that its bulletproof.

 

Hey Aune, I'm glad you posted about seeing the 4.6 Powerstroke! There is a thread in the 4.4L PSD section that a guy was asking what trucks would have them. I posted saying that I saw a newer model F150 about a year ago that had a diesel engine in it but I didn't think to ask to see the engine to take pics. Apparently this diesel powered F150 has been more of a myth except for you and me actually seeing one. If you get a chance it would be cool if you could take a few pics of it and post it here and in the 4.4 section!

 

you sure it is a 4.6 and not a 4.5 V6??
ford used the 4.5 in a few different trucks, but mostly in the LCF.

 

Very good motor, I ran one in a TW20 and it pulled better than my 4440 ever dreamed of.

 

yes i am positive that the fleet truck had a 4.6 powerstroke engine in it. thats what the little label said on the front of the truck....
