Best aftermarket backup camera kit

I would like to put a back-up camera in my 2011. Would love to put the factory set-up in, but they are selling for over $700. I do not want a clip on mirror, I want to replace the entire mirror and have the possiblity of running a second camera on my RV for backing up. Any thoughts

How did you manage that? The ones I have seen are almost that just for the camera not including the new handle, harness, and mirror. I would like to add it to my truck

eBay seller "Nailsandsales". She has the camera and/or the mirror periodically. Just keep checking her auctions.

here is the camera mounted on my tailgate. I'd have preferred the handle mounted one...but I couldn't argue with the price

99-07 trucks have a 6 pin mirror harness. 08+ trucks already have a 16 pin harness.

I had to custom build a 16 pin harness for the mirror connector. You can order the factory harness for $50, or build one like I did for $15.

Wiring wise, it was very easy to run 2 wires from the tailgate to the cab. I used stereo RCA cables. Had a 10ft section that I split and joined end-to-end.

Nice! and Thanks for the pics. I had thought about going that route because I had seen the badge with camera for the F150's realatively cheap. I was just not sure how it would mount up on the Super Duty tailgate. Did you have to cut out a whole on the tailgate to mount the emblem/camera or was it already there? I put a 2009 tailgate on my truck and when I had the panel on the gate open to change out the lock I did not see any hole around the emblem. Also do you have a pic of the 16 pin harness you made. I already bought the mirror a while back when I decided I wanted to do this mod but my mirror did not come with a pig tail and my truck is an 02 F350 so I do not have any of the wires up top for the mirror. I called Tasca but they told me they did not have any pigtails for the mirror. That is one of the main things that has held me back from putting the effort into getting the camera to get the mod done.

I'm at work, but will get links and data for y'all later when I'm at home

For the install, I had to cut a roughly 2x2" hole in the tailgate to clearance the camera. Used a cardboard template. Fairly easy. Only issue was a horizontal support rib under the sheet metal that I had to section out. If I'd placed the camera 1" higher it wouldn't have hit that piece

The camera works great. I have a perfect field of view behind me, and the hitch is just right. I may make a short video showing it off. I prefer OEM components because it looks cleaner IMO than most aftermarket

Tylus, I agree with the pricing on the 150 models. The 250 models are sellling for over $700. I will be putting this into a 2011. I wounder how different the inside of the tailgate is. I bet I can remove my access panel on the tail gate and see. Did you also put sensors on your bumper?

I was out looking at my tailgate and the 2011 embelm sits in a recessed section of the tailgate. I cannot tell from your photo, is the tailgate recessed where your embelm is?

truck is a 2006 Lariat. They are factory as far as I can tell...even a little on/off button on dash

it's amazing the $$$ they charge for stuff. I have 4 kids, so I'm always on the look for a great deal. The F-150 setup is the best setup for the money.

that was a "freebie" emblem that came with my FX4 stickers. The only thing recessed on my tailgate is the small 3" Ford oval on the lower right corner. Everything else sits ontop of the surface

only issue with the F-150 camera is that it sticks out a tiny bit. Not terrible, but just a FYI. I don't have any side pics of the tailgate exactly, but hopefully you can see the protrusion of the camera/emblem combo. I'll snap a pic today with the SLR and include it with the other stuff you guys will want/need to install a F-150 camera/mirror into your SD
