On my '66 F250 4X4, I have to push quite hard (locks the tires up on dirt roads) to make the brake lights come on. I assume the brake light switch is going bad. Where can I get a NOS one?

I don't know if its the same one as mine, but you can get a brake light switch at any auto store.

 

I bought mine at Advance Auto. It cost about $5.00.

 

The pressure activated (by your foot) brake lamp switch is notorious for becoming gummed up with dirty brake fluid.

C1AZ-13480-A (replaced 91A-13480) .. Brake Lamp Switch (Motorcraft SW-24) / Available from Ford and a gazillion autoparts stores.

Applications: Myriad 1939/66 FoMoCo vehicles / Same as Studebaker #666858 = 1941/66 Studebaker, 1951/54 Packard, 1955/56 Packard Clipper w/o Torsion Bar suspension, 1957/58 Packabaker.

 

If that doen't do the trick check your blinker switch because that where my brake light issue finally was resolved. All the power that comes from the brake switch goes through the blinker switch then to the brake lights.

 

My brake lights work. You just have to mash the pedal to the floor.

 

I'd bet they aren't made in the U.S. of A.

 

You might check the blinker fluid.

 

Isn't that stuff hard to come by for these old trucks? Maybe NumberDummy can get us a part number.
