Back in the Hood
Actually under the hood....... I bought my 9' flareside bed in Spokane a year ago, and bought the 59 F350 stake truck in Early September of this year. I had been looking for a correct vintage Ford with a 60" cab to axle dimension so I'd have something to mount this bed on. It required a different rear axle which I had collected, and then I decided to convert the front hubs so they'd be the same 8 lug pattern. Then I mounted the box, did a bunch of leaf spring work and after that I built a hd rear bumper. Somewhere during this frenzy, I got it running and left a bunch of stuff under the hood a bit wired and zip-tied and vice-gripped together. (most of you have seen pics of this rig, but never under the hood). Well, this afternoon as work in the shop was winding down, I disconnected the battery cable to pull the generator, but My temporary battery tray fell apart so I pulled it out and one thing lead to another and I started stripping stuff off under the hood. I guess I will fix the gen., re-plumb the heater I had by-passed initially and tidy stuff up in there. I did recover this cool windshield washer bag off the other fender and it was still half full. I remember at the beginning I was stepping on this weird pedal above the dimmer switch and spraying fluid all over the engine compartment. Sorry for the long post, I am just really excited about this fridge, It has really grown on me..........

Gary,you can probably locate enough parts to make your windshield squirters functional again.If NumberDummy sees this post,he'll probably give you info on who, if anyone, has parts to complete it.I have bought three complete kits over the years, the one now on my truck, plus the two spare kits on my parts shelf.They come up on eBay frequently, and at least the bag is reproduced,you can find them in the main parts vendors catalogs.Hardest to find is the foot pedal with the rubber bulb,which cracks.

When it squirted all over under the hood it was because a hose was disconnected. It seems to be functional as is. There is still plenty more to fix, but I have all winter, and it's what I like to do. My employees leave at 4:30 and my better half gets home at 6:00, so that's my easy truck time.

btw: This is a later replacement bag. Originally, where it sez See-Clear and the windshield, instead of being opaque, was clear so you could see the amount of fluid.

Dang, so mine is a reproduction? I thought since there was a 59 in the serial number at the bottom, it might have been original. That's ok, about 1/2 of my rag tag fleet, including this one doesn't even have wipers or ones that work. That's ok, on crummy rainy days I have other not so fun stuff to drive and this stuff lives in the shed. Here's a couple of the rag tag ones.

Yeah, it sort of looks like I feel. When I first get up I feel my knee joints are full of concrete but after I get moving along I limber up just fine. All old things need a little excercise once in awhile. By the way, you got that thing running kind of fast after sitting around for so long. I may have still been sitting inside of it making "vroom vroom", sounds for several days!

As an adult, my dad told me that when I was a kid I would get a new model car (or truck) and would stay up all night til it was finished. Can't teach an old dog new tricks. I actually bought a 6 volt battery on the way home that day and with this island living one sometimes has to wait hours for the next ferry, so I figured Id try to start it up on the trailer so I could drive it off. Therefore I kinda had a head start on the next day.
