Been kicking around getting rid of the stock wheel and tires off my 11 F250. It came with 245/70/17 and man do they look funny on the truck plus the traction is terrible. I would like to go to 18's or maybe even 20's but not sure what is a good wheel out there. Anybody have any thoughts on what is good? Anybody have any pictures of there truck with different wheels?

 

if you are interested in the stock look. There is a guy on here that got some from another year truck. 20s i think. looks pretty good.

Decided to go with 18" and new tires seeing how I have been stuck 3 times now and had to be pulled out once in the front yard. So I called our local Walmart today to see about mounting the new tires and rims and got into a big fight with the man he said that he will not do it if the tires are different then the sticker on the door because it will screw up the TPMS. So I said how can it screw it up if you are reusing my sensors but he said it would. Anyways my question for you guys is after that I called my dealer and talked to them about reprogramming the speedometer and he told me that they can only go up by a couple of sizes is this true? He told me everything goes off the VIN in the computer so me going from 245/70/17 to 275/70/18 might be to much. I have read on here guys putting on 20 did you guys have any problems?

 

I personally dont see why the TPMS would not work.. i thought all that was for was for the tire pressures.. Unless the unit wont fit on the new rim properly??

as far as the different sizes.. it can get pretty crappy depending on what you want to do. Check this site out. Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing
You can put your stock tire size in. and then some tire sizes you would like to try out. And it will give you an approximation of how it will affect the speedo.

The sizes you spoke of (going from 245 70 17 to 275 70 18) would not be a good idea.

on top of all of that i dont know what they can change in the programming when it comes to changing the tire size.

I think the guy that put the 20s on had 18 originally. And did take it to the dealer. not sure what they did though.

 

just by putting in some numbers..
if you wanted to stick with the 275s. you would need to have a 60 or 55 series tire. id lean towards the 60. It would be the closest to the stock overall rim/tire height.

 

and if you really wanted to stick with the 70 series you could also get a smaller tire.
a 225 70 18 would be almost exactly the same size as your stock 17 inch wheels and tire..

i think i like playing on that site to much. haha.

personally if you are more concerned with driving through snow, id go with a skinnier tire.. if its on ice traction you want then the wider tire is a good idea.. along with studs. lol.

I dumped my stock tires, well actually they are in storage just in case I have to head over for warranty work.

I have two sets; one for summer and one for winter. Right now I have Cooper 235/85R17 studded. I'll pull them off around May. My summer tires are Cooper AT3 285/75R17. My speedo is 4.2 miles off, spedo says 60 but actual speed is 64.2. I just keep that in the back of my mind on road trips. The 285 actually make the truck look like a truck and not some goofey oversize thing with yugo tires. Sorry but those stock tires are tiny and as you mentioned the traction just plan was miserable. As mentioned the TPMS are for pressure. I am placing my AT3 on new crome wheels this summer, so I'll have to either buy new sensor's for those rims, take the ones I have on the stock rims and place them in a "Pipe Bomb" device to hold pressure, or maybe just put black electrical tape over the annoying yellow dash light. Thats another issue to deal with. I will say with the 285 I have plenty of room. I would say 315 would fit, as long as you have the snowplow prep front end. Well that my $0.02...

 

325/65/18 will fit, which is 34.2x13.5x18...or 35x12.5x18 fit even better...

I actually like the look of the last ones the most. Sure the MTs look good, and if I could get white lettering on them I would like them more...I think the white letters pop on a white truck.

Are those 35x12.50's on a factory 18" wheel? Those wheels are different from mine, wasn't sure what you had. Looks like you romped it pretty good, any rubbing on the fronts at all? I can't remember the width of the factory rims so I wasn't sure how much it ballooned the tire up with the narrower rim. I'm contemplating a set of LT285/75R18 (35x11.50's) MT's when my stock tires wear out. I miss my 37" Toyo's that were on my 2000 so it'll be good to have something meatier on the truck.

What size and brand did you go with? I am trying to decide between 275/70/18 and 295/70/18 on a stock 4wd suspension.
