1990 Ranger gas leak at engine

I had been noticing a strong gas smell on my 1990 Ranger standard cab 2.3L 5 speed with approximately 150,000 miles. When I looked under the cab I saw around where the inline fuel filter is that the frame was wet. So I replaced the old filter with a new Motorcraft filter. The couplings were in good shape. When I cranked it up to check for leaks I saw a good drip coming from where the fuel lines go up to the engine. The is one line coming from the filter and one line that goes back to the tank. This leak was not seen before the filter change. It is very noticeable. What could cause the leak?

Cracked fuel line? Even the steel lines can crack if exposed to the right stresses... That would be my guess anyway...
