Last week I replaced my rear brake pads and rotors after hearing the typical grinding sound. It seemed premature since I had replaced the same pads a few years ago and hadn't put more than 10,000 miles on them since. The driver's side rear brake pads were worn down to the steel and the rotor was ruined. However, the passenger side pads and rotor were still in good shape with plenty of miles left on them. I thought it was a little odd but was in a rush and just replaced both rotors and all pads.

It didn't take long for me to smell hot brakes on the driver's side. The driver's side brake was on the verge of catching on fire and I put a hose on it with steam coming off for a few minutes. It turns out that one of the caliper pistons was frozen and was dragging the pad pretty badly. I could have rebuilt the caliper but a rebuilt on was $45 at Autozone and it fixed the problem, along with replacing the new but scorched pads. I didn't see any similar descriptions of this issue when I searched the forum so here it is.

 

Hey dogger not to sound nitpickey but shouldn't that globe and anchor be above all else! Them cow horns being placed above the symbol of my beloved Corps is some what dis comforting!
