injection pump problems--??

long story short--I cannot get fuel at the injectors.i have a new electric fuel pump, fuel filter and a rebuilt injection pump(just installed-truck wasnt running beforehand) .....the solenoid on ip clicks when key is on and i am getting fuel coming out of the valve at the filter with no air. There is fuel coming out of the return line by the injection pump...a small dribble when the pump is on without trying to start it, i think a little more when trying to start it.(would assume it should be alot more)-------is there anything left besides having a bad new injection pump? How common is that? What am i missing?

Put a meter or test light between the wire to the fuel shutoff solenoid (FSS) and ground to check that you have power at that wire during cranking.

thats the solenoid on top of the i.p to the front correct?----i pulled that wire and could here the solenoid clicking. I am assuming it is good. Should i still check it to verify volts?

the solenoid that sits directly behind it only makes a small weak sounding click. I am not sure what that one does and dont know if that means anything.

Yes the one towards the front is the FSS, the other one is the cold start advance solenoid.
If it is clicking then the FSS should be good but what I meant was that it would be a good idea to check that you have power going to it during cranking on the starter, as well as with key on.
Also it can take quite a bit of cranking on the starter with a new fuel system to get fuel to the injectors.

ok i will go back and check on that. I cranked long eneough to almost drain the batteries.

also i noticed the component that has a electrical connection that is bolted to the left side(as you look) of the i.p gets really hot. i know this is not my problem but i am just curious about that too.

What EP did you use? It should not put out much over 7PSI. If it does, it could cause the IP to shut down even though the FFS is energized. Some of the early DB2 IPs on some GM engines had a plastic retainer that would wear and plug the return fitting on top of the IP. This presurized the IP shutting it down. Check for fuel coming out of the return fitting. If none, then you need to take the top of the IP off and check for a plugged fitting.

i checked like you said and the fss holds the juice even while starting.----i guess i will charge the batteries and try again and if no luck i guess i will call the company i got it from(pensecola) and see what they say.

Sounds like you might have a problem with your line going from filter to your IP, i would check that out....

i forgot the name of the pump.Got it from ?? local parts place.forgot which one.Its a made in the usa unit and i beleive it put out somthing like 4-8.
i dont want to take the i.p apart because it is a new unit and i need to check the warranty and all that first. But i know there is a little pressure valve on the fitting that i had to take off my old unit and use.

So if its to much pressure the i.p will shut down? How does that work?---i was thinking the more pressure the better but.....if the valve is bad and not letting fuel go by then that creates pressure...which i suppose would make the pump do as you say as if the fuel pump was to strong...creating the same situaton.-----------would that be right, possibly? Could the valve alone do that?

If you have no fuel in the return lines on an 86 6.9 ford could this be a possibility? The truck will not start on its own but once started runs very well but still no return fuel. If left sitting for an hour will not start on its own. I have checked the FSS and it is working fine, replaced fuel lines and lift pump still no return fuel. HELP!
