Last week I experienced coolant steam entering the cab and immediately suspected a heater-core leak. I disconnected the waterlines that enter at the firewall and re-routed one of them back into the engine, thus by-passing the core all together. Now, time to fix the problem... I've never attempted a Heater Core in any vehicle...can someone give me a rough idea of the process on my vehicle. I've seen some F-150 seem quite easy, and some require complete dash removal. What's involved?

I don't have the data file on the '95 F 150 but I know the '95 Explorer needed to have the dash removed.

The '97 will need to have the dash removed. Some of the manuals I've seen say the AC system needs to be vacuumed prior to removing the dash and then recharged after the heater core is replaced for these models.

It's bad that you may have to remove the refrigerent, but you also have to remove the airbags before you remove the dash

The manual (DVD) also says that 2 people are required to reinstall the dash.
