65-72 should be candidates, and most should be non power steering. Need some backup but I believe the non-power/power columns are the same in length.

It was 73 when the Saginaw system started showing up on the road to being the standard choice.

Welcome to FTE

What's wrong with the steering column you have now? What usually occurs is that the shift collar breaks, causing the shift lever to "flop around."

Other problems could be associated with the upper/lower bearings / The bearing retainer at the bottom of the column / The bushing in the selector lever, bottom of the column under the hood, that the shift rod from the trans attaches to.

And, if you need the steering coupler aka rag joint, any used one you find will be as worn out as yours. If you need the rubber only for the coupler, it can be bought in autoparts stores for a few bucks.

Some parts are still available from Ford (shift collar, upper/lower bearings). Other parts are obsolete, but usually can be found NOS.

Why replace the entire column with a used column that may be no better than what you have now?

A steering column from a 1965/66 will not work properly. 1967/70's have a different steering wheel, horn blowing mechanism. Ford used two different turn signal switches in 1969. One is the same thru 1972, one is not.

So, to be exact, you will need a 1971/72 F100/250 2WD column with A/T, without P/S. But, you may need only a part or two to fix what you have now.

There are two different power stearing boxes the bendix box column is longer then the Ford box.The Ford power steering column is shorter. Not sure about the length of the bendix power to manual steering length if there the same.

Bendix P/S has nothing to do with it, since it's a 1971.

Bendix P/S: 1966/68 F100/250 2WD / 1969 F100/250 2WD before serial number D96,001.

Ford P/S: 1969 F100/250 2WD & F350 from serial number D96,001 / 1970/72 F100/250 2WD & F350 (1973 and later).

F350's were not available with P/S before serial number D96,001.

There are six different steering columns, because: Manual steering is different than w/power steering. A/T is different than M/T. 3 speed M/T is different than w/a 4 speed. 2WD is different than 4WD.
