How Bad Is My Rust Problem? (PICS)
My trucks a 1992 F150, I live in Wisconsin, and they dump enough salt on our roads in winter that the grass damn near never grows back around the roads. I don't really have anything to compare this rust to and I am hoping for your guys 2 cents on this never ending project.
I've put a lot into this truck in the 19 months I've owned it.
ALL new brakes, Booster to Rotors.
Front end rebuild. Wheel bearings, ball joints, linkage, etc
All new u-joints (Haven't done the front driveshaft yet)
Power Steering pump and lines
Frame Repair and Strengthening (Near Steering Gearbox)
Basic tune up stuff.
Window Wiper Motor
New MileMarker hub lockers
New Front Bumper
Ton of other little things...
Still have to rebuild the steering gearbox and get new leaf springs. After that its all mechanically perfect!
Just some eye candy lol
Getting New leaf springs and shackles, so just need to sandblast and repaint the mount. Got surface but no rot.
Frame Repair from the broke off cross member and what not...
Yuck!
Only serious spot of bad rot, not structural.
Looks good to me!
My Ghetto repair for my half of the exhaust breaking off. Going to do the same to the other side.

Doesn't really look too bad. I've seen these trucks much worse than yours. If you are replacing the springs and shackles, replace the bracket on the frame too. (The one that the shackle attaches to) Those are known for rusting out and breaking.
I feel your pain with the salt. They dump so much salt on the roads over here in MN it's insane.

Your rust issue is not that bad. I see worse every time I get under my 96 F150. The comment above about replacing brackets is a good one. I have replaced those rear leaf brackets/shackels and radius arm brackets on mine. The rusted out brackets are so common the local dealer keeps them in stock.

Also I got one hell of a deal for a small sandblaster, going to get some use out of it cleaning the frame and other rust areas. What would be best for re-sealing everything?

You can get the brackets almost anywhere. NAPA has them and even crappy Auto zone does too. I highly recommend changing them because I've changed a few recently the put holes in the bed!
Your truck looks great though! It's very saveable. Mine is 20 times worse haha
Example of a broken spring hanger
I knows it blurry but you can see the holes (and the spring mount on the left side) due to broken hangers

It's POR-15 rust converter/coating time, my friend. I'd talk to a good body man first, but I think everything that's still sound could be brushed off and coated, for a fairly permanent fix. Anything that is on the edge of rusting through - like, say a cab/body mount should be fixed first, as POR-15 is very hard to remove once on - but it converts rust and protects in a way other paints/coverings can't. That truck would be considered rust free here! And would get a good 3k$ for it!
Heres what we call minor rust!
Not my truck
Heres my 1990 F250 with 377k miles
And the funny thing is I was acutally driving this truck as daily driver, right till the end, when I parked it, I striped it down and cut the roof off.
Going through a complete restoration, with a new southern body!
