ford 4.1 [250] 6 cylinder harmonic balancers

we need a new harmonic balancer for our 1980 ford 250 ci inline 6.
dorman has a 594-244 which is for 1977 and older.
anybody have any ideas for a 1980 balancer?

From what I can see, that engine was first used in the 1960s and last used in 1977.

The 6-banger engines listed in the FoMoCo 1980/89 Light Truck Parts Catalog are:

2.8L / 171 cid
2.9L / 177 cid
3.0L / 183 cid
3.8L / 230 cid
4.9L / 300 cid

Which means your engine didn't come installed in your truck from the factory, somebody else put that into there.

I don't have any of the 1970s books, perhaps NumberDummy can help, you might PM him and ask him to look at this thread....

Agree, check the casting number on side of block. Here is what I found for it. If you have the old one the number on it would help. Damper Doctor Online: FORD 240/250 C.I.

here's what we found: the 250 6 cylinder was used after 1977 in
the ford granada and was available as an industrial engine also.
the tip about damper doc was great. we've been in touch with them
and have found a rebuilt damper. all is well !!
thanks for the replies to our post.

You could be right, I listed what Rock Auto said the Doorman part fits. Ford very well may have used a different dampener in subsequent years but I don't have any of the 1970s books to verify and it's not important enough to investigate any further since you seem to have found something that'll work for you.
