Thanks for the specs, Mil1ion. I never seem to remember the tune up specs when I need them and these will come in handy.

What should be the idle speed for a '72 302, automatic?

he spec for the 360 and 390 is spot on for factory settings. But, inital timing seems to make more power and is easier to start at around 10 btdc. Try this and see if you don't get better results.

In the order they apear from left to right, I know its: #cyls-Plug gap-point gap-dwell-????-Timing. Whats this figure in which most of them are 17-21? As a guess, I would say it looks most like a vacume reading, but your the one with the book.

Very good question.

It is the Distributor Spring tension in ounces.
17-21 ounces

I appreciate you pointing that out.
I will add the Firing orders to that post now too.

You wouldn't happen to have this chart for a '79 460 and 370?

I did a search and couldn't find one.

Thanks

At least the 460 specs ,it's on my web site.

You need to get the calibration code first then look for the specs.

Click the blue *Club FTE Member* on the left to access my site.

scroll to the bottom of page and click *Calibration codes & specs*

Just remember that the timing spec is only a guide line that was established when gasoline was a lot different than it is now. My 72 300 6 pings like crazy at factory spec and needs to be backed down 2 degrees. It is a fine line and if I back it down 4 degrees it has a noticable power loss. On this you need a good dial back timing light and check all your advanc specs as per the manual. I have a 1975 Motor manual that has all the information in it which has been reliable except for a typo or error on the valve adjusting procedure for 390's.
