well, its been hot here lately and I've noticed lately that my a/c on my 2011 F350 6.7 doesn't get very cold. I put a thermometer in the vent the other day and with 90 degree outside temp the air coming in on max ac was 70 degrees. Along with that you can barely tell if the seat a/c is even working. I took a two hour road trip the other day and by the time I got back me and my buddy were about baked out of the truck. not much air movement out of the vents at that time even on max. my airflow is back to normal now but not very cold. Dealer said I must be driving in dusty conditions and plugging condensor. I asked if that meant I should not buy a ford as a work truck if it was going to get dusty. My '99 powerstroke now has 320,000 miles and has rarely left the farm for the last 100k. a/c is still cold as ice. I wouldn't be concerned but they're telling me they'll have to pull the dash completely out and it could be about a grand to fix it. I'm off of warranty now so would like another opinion before I take it in and get bent over. Thanks for any help

Sounds like it froze up with the lack of air flow. Do u run it in dusty environments? Down here in clay country, trucks on construction sites and rock quarries would clog up the evaporator. It is usually in place where a lot of earth is being moved.We would remove the blower motor and reach up into hole and blow out the evaporator with regulated air psi before the a/c was turned on. You could see it though. Some looked to have been stucco'ed.

I looked at the breakdown for 2011 and it looks like you can do that. I was surprised they did not put a cabin air filter in it as it seems ford is putting in everything else. The other thing we have had a problem with on the 08 and newer trucks is the space between the radiator and condenser filling with debris.

If neither of those are the problem, then it would take psis to see what it is doing. Could be anything. Is it dual zone auto climate control?

I know times are tough but I think I would ask to speak to Ford rep if it comes that to see if they will cover with that age and mileage. We have had limited success depending on the issue.

 

thanks for the reply carlton. yes I am in dusty conditions but my old 99 has been in much more dust than this it's whole life and I've never had a problem. thanks for the info on the evaporator, I'll try that tomorrow.

Does the A/c work well at idle???

 

A/C on my 2011 F450 is cooling, but not moving enough air. Will eventually cool down, but takes a while especially on hot days we've been having. Wasn't the case when it was new. Took to dealer, they initially indicated it was cooling ok, so I clarified that air flow seemed to be the problem. The tech located a TSB requiring replacement of housing around evaporator coil, etc. Parts on order. Don't yet know what the real issue is, and have some concerns that my truck may be the guinea pig for this TSB at the dealer I'm using (will have more discussion with dealer before proceeding). Will let you know how this turns out. Posted this on anothere thread related to 2011 A/C.

If any of you have already had experience with this TSB, would appreciate any info you can share.

Additional info: TSB number is 11-11-14 per dealer (have not located this TSB anywhere on web). Parts have arrived - per TSB the part to be replaced is housing for evaporator coil and heater core. Haven't seen parts yet. Scheduled to be in shop on 7/16. Will share results.
