1948 Ford F5?

Hello All,

I am new to the site and the world of modifying ford trucks, so be gentle!

I have recently picked up a 1948 Ford Farm Truck - it looks to be an F6 maybe. 12,000lbs GVM originally.

I was wanting to put the cab onto something with better running gear to make a daily driver out of it.

Can anyone suggest a suitable chassis to look for?

Thanks in advance,

Bart

Welcome to FTE, Bart. Any chassis swap is always a challenge to make it look right, and many will discourage doing it. However, most bigger trucks are a standard 34" wide frame, so that's half the battle, lol. Usually it's easier to just swap the driveline to the original chassis, and work out the details such as steering, brakes, gas tank, etc... as progress allows. But a good plan is in order. Others here who have done a swap like this have used '70's F350's... 51dueller being one. A search with his name and "chassis swap" might yield results that will help you. Good luck!

I'm currently doing a chassis swap on an OT vehicle, and I'll say firsthand, it's not easy.

Welcome to FTE.... Kiss all your free time goodbye... Between working on the truck and here, everyone is going to think you have a new girlfriend... You can look for a f1 or f2/f3 frames... and unstall an engine/trans/rear end in to make it a DD, depending on what you want for you DD... Putting one on a newer frame with the wider wheel base looks funny... Here some pics of a '48 f3 on a (2500) 3/4 ton frame

im currently in the middle of a swap very simmilar to yours. my 51 is a f6 and i found a 49 f1 frame to put it on along with a bed. the swap isnt bad with a frame that works, just a little thought is needed if one wants to use the larger components off a larger truck.

good luck and dont forget to have fun
