Yeah for $800 you should be able to help that 302 out, where you might be hard pressed to swap in a 351 at that price. I got lucky and was able to put in a slightly used 351 long block with new roller timing set, new water pump, and new gaskets for about $550, but I was just swapping one 351 for another (and the replacement motor was only $100). From what I've read on here, long tube headers, new cam (search Conaski's threads for specific suggestions), higher ratio rocker arms, timing bump all help.
First off, make sure what you have is running tip top, a modded worn out motor is still a worn out motor.
Still not sure why everyone wants to listen to a loud truck motor though.
But damn, thats a steep price on a gear swap, I would've thought more like $500ish. My local shop said it would be about $700 to fully rebuild my 8.8 with a new ring & pinion.
EDIT: Just skimmed the link to the older posts about burnouts. Sell the truck and buy a crotch rocket, natural selection is sped up on those toys.

cus they want to annoy the neighbors or if its on a farm take it to the city and annoy the locals and get the police to look his way and give him tickets?
as for the crotch rocket, why not just play with TNT or nitro glycerin? best toys for natural selection right there....

First off I would reccommend spelling out all your words this is a forum not a text message. Second, I would check junkyards for a complete rear axle with higher gears, that should only run you a couple hundred dollars (I am assuming you're a 2x4). Third, it is typically cheaper to sell the truck and get one with a bigger motor in it than to go through the hassle of an engine swap.
