2011 Expedition A/C problem - cold air always blows out of the floor

Howdy everyone -

Trying to do some research on my mom's 2011 Expedition. I noticed while driving it a couple of weeks ago that no matter when setting the A/C is on, it always blow some cold air out of the floor vents. There is still plenty of air coming through the dash vents, but it seems like you should be able to completely shut off the floor vents. Is this a common issue on these vehicles?

My mom has been complaining about cold feet when she is driving around in flip flops! She took it into the dealer, but they just said that the system was working properly, and there was nothing that Ford recommended for the issue.

Anyone know what is causing this, or any way to fix it?

If you choose the dash vent only option, how much air is coming out of the floor? I have a very slight amount, nothing I can even notice unless I hold my hand up to it. It certainly doesn't make my feet cold and I wear flip flops 90% of the time.

It is enough to notice with your feet on the pedals. I'm sure that there is always a little bit of air leaking out of any vent opening, but this is enough that can be instantly noticed when the A/C is on high (which is has been all summer here in Texas).

anyone figure this out?

I have a 2012 Expedition and am having the same issue with the a/c blowing on my feet while it is set for the dash vents. The dealership told me that is the way it is supposed to work - 20%, yes 20% of the air should be blowing on my feet. I have a 1997 Explorer an it doesn't work that way! Does anyone know how to stop the air from blowing on my feet?????

2012 Expedition cold air

we have a 2012 expedition and it is a joke . when my wife test drove the car, she noticed it and the salesman just told her to change the vent settings and it would go away......typical lying salesman .......we are considering a suit against Ford. I have had over 30 cars in my life and never experienced anything like it

This is normal. I have a 2011 F150 CC and a 2012 Expy and they both do the same thing. I don't like it but that's the way it is.

Yeah, can't fix a problem with the design. I guess it keeps your feet from stinking.

Same problem with 21012 F150. Took it to the dealer, they told me that they have moved from vacuum actuators to digital actuators and if they close tightly, they strip gears. At least that's what I walked away with, and I checked a friend of mines and his is the same. Now that summer is here, I cut an old sock up and stuck it in the drivers side, the vent closest to the firewall and used duct tape to cover the other duct and the duct on the passenger side. Wish I had a good answer but as it is I was freezing my tootsies off.

you guys must have some issues and crappy ford dealers. Our 13 and my old 08 never had the issue your speaking of. The '13 depending on outside air temp will blow out the vents only. Occasionally it will blend when it's cooler than the mid 60s but otherwise it's always out of the vents. I just moved it too after reading this and had no issues with air coming out of the floor vents.

Maybe easy...

I just fixed this problem on my 04. A small vacuum line coming out of the firewall just behind the battery was broken in half. Simply re-connecting the line fixed everything.
