Check Gas Cap Light On
Hi All,
I just purchased a 2004 X with 93 K on the V10. Been driving it a few weeks (Loving it) and yesterday the check gas cap came on after stopping for 20 min (I did not touch the cap).
I realize this may be more than just the cap but would like trouble shooting assistance. I removed the cap checked the O ring and all seems good. Since the light did not come on after fueling I don't think its the culprit.
New to the Excursion so some tips on what/Where to look for the DIYer. Also what is tghe procedure to clear the light? Remove battery lead or will it clear after some cycles?
Thanks to all...

The system does not necessarily do a evap test on each drive cycle so it could have still be after fueling up. Once they get some age they do not hold the same pressure even if the o-ring appears to be good. If it went off it is most likely ok and just wasn't seated all of the way or maybe had dirt in the seal. If it comes back you can have the evap system tested by someone with a scan tool or just replace the cap as it will be the first thing most shops will suggest.
