Josh (theenforcer) and myself are getting John Woods to bulid us a transmission. Its turned out that both of us have the PTO version of the 4R100. Maybe they dumped all the left over PTO trannies on the Australian market cause they are rare in the U.S. When ya get a chance have a look on the passenger side of ya box and let us know what ya got.

If you have a PTO 4R100, what can you do with it.

It's a bit of a funny place to have a PTO isn't it? I know the old Landrovers used to have one poking out the front that could be used for winching.

 

pto can run an oil pump so you can hook any type of hydraulic system you wish. In my case it increases the cost of the JW tranny, Cause like I said they are rare in the U.S so now he has to source a pto case. They have a different gear set and sensors so a standard 4R100 wont do. I was just curious as to what you guys have. It seems a bit coincidental that the two of us have the PTO version.

 

Right, that makes sense. Hey if you get a hydraulic pump on your PTO you could run a hydraulic powered capstan winch on the front bumper. It'd be stronger and more durable than having an oversized starter motor powered winch.
They'd probably be a demand for JW PTO transmissions in the states, can't he just exchange your PTO trans for a rebuilt non-PTO one?

The PTO option must have been used for the US guys if they ran the snowplow set up, the hydraulic pump on the PTO would allow the plow blade to be manipulated.

I would also bet that the stock PTO trans is tractor strong - stronger than the non-PTO trans. Maybe the PTO trans is the basis for the Ford HD trans?!

Yes, 3 out of 3 - mine's got the same blanking off plate as shown in your photo!

Nah the non PTO and the PTO are not interchangeable. The PTO has a different gear set and sensors. Our PCM wont read a non PTO trans. No wonder they are rare in the States. We have em all.

All Aus effies had the PTO transmission.
Both the transmissions and the 5.4l V8's were all built ~2000 and stored in an climate controlled warehouse in Brazil and pulled out as production needed them.

We learnt quite a bit when we stockpiled the 5.0l wheezers in Aus for the AU Falcon's after the engine finished production in the states in 98 (I think), and we were still putting them in cars till 2002. A lot of them got rust (or other damage to seals etc.).
As a result of things like excessive oil consumption from rust on cylinder walls in some of the earlier engines that were put in storage, they had to do a full engine inspection (and possibly rebuild!) prior to install in the AU MkIII's.

Safe to say, we didn't want to repeat that mistake
The 7.3l (and 4.2l) was built to order tho by Navistar Brazil.

 

Hey Adrian. You seem to be in the loop. Have you heard any whispers about Ford importing the F trucks to AUS again. ??? The way the dollar is going and will continue to go I would expect it may be a viable proposition.

How about inventing me a height adjustable suspension system which runs off the PTO?
The I wont have to stuff around with all that airbag stuff!

Failing that, an in-cab height adjustable tow hitch.
