stuck in first gear

Hi, My husband replaced the clutch and slave cylinder in his 1996 f150 and now it's stuck in gear. The clutch works great and takes it out of gear but the stick is in neutral position and feels like it's locked in a gear. Does anyone know of a way to NOT take the whole thing apart again But get it out of gear?
Thanks, Michelle

When you depress the clutch the transmission spins. When you do not depress the clutch its locked in gear.

this happened to me and it ended up being the shift forks mis-aligned in the tranny. he must have taken the shifter off to drop the tranny, correct? did he remove the cover on top of the tranny with the three torx screws? take a look under that cover and see if you notice anything out of line. it sounds obscure but when you take the cover off you will see what i mean. you can actually pop the tranny in and out of gear with a screwdriver while the cover is off.

I'd say you hit the nail square on the head with that!!! Even if he just popped the shift lever it can do the same thing!!!

He said thank you and you were correct on everything that you described but he is afraid of prying on something and breaking it? He doesn't know what to look for.
