v10 to v8 engine swap
I am new to ford ownership (hopefully soon) and have a opportunity to buy a 99 F350 SD with a V10. the engine is shot and I was wondering if I might be able to put in a V8. I will not be using it to do the work of a V10 so I don't think a larger V8 will be underpowered. It has an automatic 4x4 transmission. It will mainly be used to haul firewood and maybe tow a 22' boat that a 5.7 L GMC or a 5.2 L Dodge handles fine. Is this feasible? I am guessing I will need the correct computer for the V8 but anything else? will the trans bolt up ok? new motor mounts? I can do an engine swap on the 95 GMC suburban with no problems, am I getting in over my head on a Ford engine swap V10 to V8? thanks deputyb Central IN.

Replacing the existing V10 would be the easiest. You should be able to find a fairly low mile 2V NPI or PI V10 at a salvage yard for fairly cheap, check craigslist also. The 2V V10 is still being produced to this day for the E-series vans so a wrecked late model E-series is another place to pick up and engine. The next easiest swap to make would be to put in a 5.4l V8.(Basically a 6.8l with 2 less cylinders) You would need the complete wiring harness and ecm for the 5.4l to make things go easier.
