I would be interested in seeing more discussion of the longevity of the ecoboost. Its gas mileage is not all that great. If the engine, due to the turbo, is only good for 100,000 miles and non-turbo 200,000, ecoboost might not be a good deal. I understand how turbo works generally, but the last turbo I owned was built in the 70's. It may be that a turbo can go as long as any other engine. In any event, I would appreciate feedback in this regard. Thanks.

 

I can't talk on the Ecoboost directly as I don't own one but as to turbos. Todays turbos are nothing like the 70's or even ten years ago. Tons of advanced designs in their shape and materials have changed the performance and longevity. Chris

Too soon to tell. i don't see a problem with them lasting in the Taurus, but in a heavy truck ,especially if used for frequent towing, it's hard to say. Only time will tell. Diesel engines last a very long time and are usually turbocharged, but they are also built a lot stronger than a gasoline engine and run in a lower rpm range.

 

Only time will tell about the Ecoboost engines. The Ecoboost engine was built specifically for turbo's. I believe the Ecoboost is a pretty tough little engine. Turbo's use to have a reputation of failure after a few miles because of the heat affect on the bearings in the turbo. There has been some major advances in turbo technology. Everything now depends the most on how well drivers are taking care of there equipment and making sure the oil is changed on a regular schedule. I know nothing of the Ecoboost technology but if I were going to do any mods it would be to increase the size of the inner cooler.

 

I just saw an article the other day in a mustang rag about a longevity test that ford that was supposed to equal 10 years and 160k. even mentioned something about the baja 1000, but anyways, they tore it apart in front of the press and it showed very little wear. I'll see if i cant find the article...

 

A little bit different subject. One of the service tech's returned from some special training at Ford a few weeks ago and told me there was some talk about a twin turbo powered 5.0 Mustang.

 

That would eat a camaro alive!

 

It might even give a 6.1 Challenger a run for its money.

The 11' NA 5.0l Mustang is a better match to the SRT8 Challenger. A TT EB 5.0l would KILL the Challenger without a doubt.

 

That's what I was thinking. I think the 5.0L Mustang already outruns the Challenger.
