Fel-Pro vs. Victor Reinz vs. OEM Gasket Quality . . .
Hey guys,
I have been reading a lot of posts on this topic, mainly the most recent one about the Lower intake Manifold Gasket Replacement, and I wanted to break off a new thread to ask a specific question about gaskets . . .
From talking to a couple of other guys, they said that Fel-Pro was designed BETTER than OEM and no longer has any cork in it.
However, from reading online, it seems that OEM is definitely still the way to go and that Fel-Pro is inferior.
I am doing my intake system and was wondering about different gasket manufacturers . . .
(1997 Ranger -- 4.0L V6)
OEM
Fel-Pro
Victor Reinz
On RockAuto.com, a complete Fel-Pro set is $68 and the Victor Reinz gaskets are $71. I'm putting in a big order with RockAuto, so I was thinking of ordering a set of Victor Reinz manifold gaskets.
Can anyone give me their thoughts on this?
Thanks!
Joe

That's what I've heard as well . . . However, the thread that talks about the Lower Intake Manifold Gasket replacement advises against Fel-Pro . . . but it was originally posted 7 years ago, so I thought that maybe they had improved their gasket design.
The Fel-Pro complete Intake Gasket set is $68 on Rockledge. I'm thinking about going that route

The lower gasket as a Fel-Pro is fine. They are easier to install than the OEM gasket, but the OEM gasket is better. I would go so far as to advise against either. The upper intake gasket however, OEM is definitely the way to go, particularly if you have the plastic intake manifold. The OEM is redesigned to correct a design fault, the FEL-PRO is more similar to the original faulty design.
The Victor Reinz are most likely rebranded repacked Fel-Pro gaskets.
