i noticed that there is black discharge all over my battery. Does this mean the battery is going bad?

Never seen any black discharge on a battery acid would turn to a white powder with a green tint on metal parts. Is it maybe battery cleaner or anti corrosion gel?

my autozone yellow tops did that right before they died
I had never seen black residue on a battery before either maybe thats why most batteries are in black cases lol

Aren't these sealed batteries? I can't check mine as I replaced it a couple of years ago with a high capacity, deep discharge type usually used in public safety vehicles.

I think at Autozone their yellow top is the best (not to be confused with Optima yellow tops)

Mine has the same thing. Many batteries do this. Wipe it off with a rag and some simple green.
If the battery is swelling up then replace it.
