For a tuner, go with SCT and get custom tunes from either Eric at Innovative Diesel or Matt at Gearhead Automotive, both write great tunes. Other than that, keep stock size tires on it, no lift, and try not to run over 60-65 much, with light acceleration.

The tuner nor the 4" exhaust will increase your fuel mileage significantly.... mainly because you push down with your right foot more just to listen to it!!! PURTY!

If you bought that beast to get good fuel mileage, you bought for the wrong reason!! But it sure do sound good and puts the great 6.0 smile on your ugly face!! Hope ya ken take a joke!

If you are going to go big (and lets be honest... is there any other way) then regear your truck, that will help you a bit.

Tuners are for extra power. If you happen to get better mileage that is a luck of the draw. Above info, post, is golden. Keep it stock and keep the maint. up and use OEM filters only.

If you care about mileage then buy a toyota not a real truck. These truck are made to work. they tow and look good. They are not a Honda car and never will be. Mine is a daily driver and I am lucky to get 10MPG and I dont care as I love my truck.

Wow, lucky to get 10mpg? That's absolutely terrible for daily driving. I have 4" lift, 35" tires, 4.30 gears. If I run a whole tank around town here, short trips, I get about 12 mpg. On the highway, I'll get 17 running 65 mph. Just because they're not an econo-car doesn't mean we can't try to get the best mileage possible.

I dont have a very soft foot is my problem I think. No I am at 10.3 for this tank. I know not very good but not why I bought the truck. If I do a road trip I can get in it 16 range but I have to watch myself. Have never got very good mileage andf owned the truck since new. It is what it is. I live on a decent hill and pull that everyday so I guess that doesnt help either.

jet,
you are exactly right....
the right foot is the biggest factor in mpg, even on a prius !

and weight and 'slip-eness' of the design...

our's being HEAVY and a shoebox, doesn't bode well for mpg

If the truck is in perfect working order

water injection on the highway gets you a couple.....
taller gears than stock
Gear Vendor Doubler gets you a 1-3
Truck cap like a tonnaeu cover
Pure #2 diesel and cetane boost.

Not to argue but on 3 of your points,
1. I've tried water inj. on gassers and never saw any improvement.
2. At 1 to 3 mpg it would take two lifetimes to pay for the gearvendor.
3. Consumer reports ran tests on pick ups with and without tailgates and tonnaeu covers and there was no discernable diff. in mileage.

I am running Matt's custom tunes with an SCT tuner. When I'm not towing my trailer and using street tune, AND I keep my foot out of it, I can get a couple MPGs better than stock... From 16 to about 18. If I'm in any kind of a hurry and my right foot gets heavy, that couple MPGs quickly go away and I lose additional MPGs. I probably don't want to know what my mileage is when I step on the go peddle excessively in street tune.
When towing my 12K trailer and in "unlimited tow" mode I get about the same as stock. Right around 11 MPG.

1. In diesel land it works...and works well... my brother has it and I will soon. he see's about 2mpg gain on the highway.... plus it keeps egt's in tact.

2. It still is a mod that increases fuel economy. the OP wasnt asking about price. I just listed the mod that works.........sorry.....

3. That could be argued netherless it doesnt hurt milage. I see about zero gain with my topper but then again it weighs 300lbs.....
