My 59 F100 Panel Project

Hi guys,
I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Ugly. That is what all of my friends call me, even my wife. Fourth of July weekend, my dad was kind enough to trailer his 59 Ford Panel, from Grass Valley, Ca and give it to me. He told me he was over it. By no means was I or am I spoiled. I've only driven my panel once, and that was 10 years ago. It has sat in my garage since my dad brought it to me. It needs some brake work done, in order to get it road worthy, and I have no idea how to do brakes.
My dad bought it 4 months before I was born, and I'm 38 now.
It has been out in the weather for 6 or so years. Now it is back in a garage. It runs but it has a few minor problems. It needs a new paint job, really bad, but I think I'm gonna start with getting new suspension first. This is all new to me, but I'm looking forward to learning about these old trucks and meeting new people. I don't really know anybody who it into old cars. I have one friend who has a 50 Chevy delux, but he bought it finished. I have always been a huge fan of the classics, since I was a young kid, but I never thought I would ever own one. Now I do! Thanks to my dad.
Here are a few pics. The camera does my panel justice It doesn't look that good in person.
It has a 390ci in it, has 69 Lincoln front disc brakes and a 69 Lincoln rear end.

Get a hold of some of the folks in Pickups Limited, Orange County chapter...they can point you in the right direction for repair shops that know these trucks inside out. Ed Oe is a member of this forum, "edsF100" is his user name here on FTE...send him a PM and he'll get you started in the right direction.

Thanks for the info, but I want to learn how to do the brakes. I just need somebody to show me how.

Get yourself a good manual and go for it. (Sounds like you need a book for a '69 Lincoln too!)Jack it up and pull off both wheels front or back. But, only tear apart one side at a time so you can still see what they are suppose to look like! Go slowly and lay the pieces out in order so you know where to put them back. If you get stuck along the way, there are many folks here that will be more than willing to give you help!

Thanks for the advice! I have a manual but I'm a little nervous. I feel more comfortable when I'm showed how to do it first. I just need to get out there and do it.

Don't be scared! Just go down to one of your local repair shops and look at the folks working on vehicles. Then say to yourself, I am just as intelligent as they are! After you do the first wheel you will be tearing through the others!

By the way, that's a nice looking ride. If you get it repainted, then you will be worrying about something happening to it. Much more relaxing to drive and enjoy it in it's current condition. Just my dumb opinion though!

Thanks! For the past 30 years, it has had a nice paint job, so I'm gonna have it repainted. My cars are like my second wife and I aiways worry about them

Just thought I'd give an update. I still haven't worked on the brakes, but I did find out which parts I need. I bought a new steering wheel and had my plates restored.
