Fuel tank straps

Fuel tank straps
When I was at highway I start to hear some noise from undercarriage. It turn to be broken front fuel tank strap. Both new one, 2 tm set, for only 30$. Took out rear one to and was capable to brake it with my own hands. So I'm lucky that rear one didn't brake at highway and that it was capable to hold tank all way home, probably because tank was almost empty. Just recommend any one to check straps, if any signs of rust replace it otherwise you can gamble with yours and other people life in traffic.

Dropped on road
I lost my tank 4 months ago while traveling on Interstate at 60 mph. Besides the straps, I needed a new tank due to holes in tank from rubbing on highway and a new vaccum sensor that was broken when the tank fell, total cost $800+ and that did not include the tow cahrge or 3/4 tank of gasoline I lost.
wish I had know about the problem 5 months ago.

Called Ford dealer in Grants Pass (OR) today -- I have an appointment tomorrow for the "supplemental cable" fix. They told me that only those owners who have the supplemental/ temporary fix will be notified when the permanent fix is available in or after September. So get your truck in for the temporary fix -- an all day job -- or you will not get the permanent new strap fix later.

They all have to do what Acura did at my Acura legend 90 - hot deep galvanize entire undercarriage and then spray it with industrial rubberized compound. I fight rust with Cold Galvanizing Compound with decent success. I will not sit and look my truck rust trough.

This will be just like the cruise control recall from a few years ago that effected the same range of vehicles. This is an issue with the trucks that are in the northern states where they use salt to help to de-ice the roads in the winter.
