Found this site where you can put in a part number and it gives you the applications. Handy, but they don't have applications for older numbers.
Does anyone know of a site where you can do this with older (60s & 70s) numbers?

The only luck I have had in this area is kind of a bass-akwards system of going to the online parts house sites and looking up my application, then taking a SWAG and checking other applications.

The only problem is there are so many obsolete/supercede numbers.

I do have the obsolete/supercede books that change them up though.
